Ten homes are being built at the council-owned site which are due to go on sale in the summer 2018. Money raised from the scheme will go towards the £7.75m cost of the council's project to create a new museum and art gallery at the Town Hall in St Peter's Street, which is due to open in 2018.
We hope to bring you news in the coming months of progress of the development and news of some of the craftsmen and women whose skills will make this development in Hatfield Road a worthy legacy that we the community collaborated on for the city we love. November newsletter below.
We are hopeful to be able to arrange site visits at key times, especially for those who took part in the charrette. Many of those who took part feel a strong connection with the development and we are very pleased that connection has been recognised.
Our Chair Vanesa Gregory met with some of the Morgan Sindall team and council representatives earlier this month and took the photos below. As she was not ‘kitted out’ for a full site visit these were taken from the Porto cabin.
Time capsules found at former St Albans museum site
As many people already know not one, but two capsules time have been found on site! https://www.stalbans.gov.uk/council-and-democracy/press-room/items/2017/November/2017-11-08-time-capsules-found.aspx http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-41913300
The contents of these can be viewed at the Verulamium Museum until the New Year http://www.stalbansmuseums.org.uk/verulamium/ http://www.stalbansmuseums.org.uk/museum-of-stalbans/
Vanessa said: “It was a real pleasure to meet Paul Barrett and Neil Dunbar from Morgan Sindall and to have theirs and the council’s blessing to continue our connection to the site. The last time I was there was on the site visit design charrette and now to have the opportunity to see our dream starting to become a reality was really quite moving. To see the features we were so very keen to remain in place was a real joy.” Here are some drawings to show what the finished development will look like.
