Skipton Grassroots Giving programme was launched in 2013 to help celebrate its 160th anniversary and this year they plan to help 160 community projects across the country. Skipton are keen to support projects that will have a lasting impact and legacy for communities and it is wonderful the ground-breaking work of Look! St Albans has been recognised in meeting this criteria!
The Look! St Albans’ charrette process is a collaborative event that engages planning professionals, developers and local people with independent expert facilitation in co-creating designs using our community endorsed draft design codes. It puts local engagement at the beginning and heart of the design process, and results in quicker, less acrimonious progressive developments that build community, improve overall health and wellbeing and leave a legacy for the future that we can all be proud of.
Out of 1,023 applications received by Skipton we were lucky enough to be one of the 363 groups shortlisted, but to secure this invaluable funding now we need your vote. Please vote here http://bit.ly/Vote4Look or in your local branch.
VOTING IS ONLY OPEN UNTIL THE END OF SEPTEMBER SO PLEASE GET CLICKING OR VISITING YOUR LOCAL BRANCH.
Vanessa Gregory Look! St Albans chairman visited Skipton’s local branch in St Albans on the corner of Victoria Street and met Michael McHugh Branch Manager and his colleague Theresa and was delighted with their enthusiastic support. The building had attracted some very positive comments in our original workshop report.
Michael was really keen on the project and wished every community could have such a local group. “We look forward to people coming in to vote for Look! St Albans.
I work in St Albans but live in Hemel Hempstead. I see large signs up telling me what developments are taking place in Hemel, but I don’t get the opportunity to have my say. We all care passionately about our communities and what is built, it is only right we should have our ideas and local knowledge taken in to account as we live with the results!”
Vanessa had commented in the application: “Many people want a genuine say in how their area develops and feel frustrated by the seeming complexities and lack of a real opportunities within the planning system.
Look! St Albans has found a way to cut through all that. As an ultimate Grassroots organisation, our approach ensures local people, working together, can make a positive contribution and have a real influence on their local environment. A Skipton Grassroots award will go a long way in realising this ambition.”
