At the time of our AGM on the 25th April 2016 Councillor Julian Daly was Portfolio Holder for Planning at St Albans City and District Council. Please see http://www.lookstalbans.org/1/post/2016/04/-get-to-know-the-look-st-albans-representatives-group.html and http://www.lookstalbans.org/uploads/2/7/7/4/27749191/look_st_albans_representatives_group_as_of_11th_april_2016.pdf

Civic Centre Opportunity Site Development Brief

6/8/2016

Should anyone be looking for some light summer reading ahead of the Civic Centre Opportunity Site Design Charrette to be held on Friday 9th September, Saturday and Sunday 10th & 11th and Friday 16th September you may want to consider the following two documents?
This supplementary planning document adopted by the council in July 2012 referenced the work of Look! St Albans. The full brief can be found here http://www.stalbans.gov.uk/Images/SP_CCOS_AdoptedSPD_tcm15-25842.pdf
The Look! St Albans workshop report published in January 2013, endorsed by the community in March 2013 is held in the guardianship of Look! St Albans.  This document can be found here http://www.weebly.com/uploads/2/7/7/4/27749191/look_st_albans_final_design_workshop_report_jan_2013.pdf It is not adopted policy of the council, however it informs the supplementary planning document in particular within the section below.
Section 6 Development Form and Design
“Further thinking and design analysis has been generated through the Look! St Albans project, which is a partnership with, amongst others, the Council and the St Albans Civic Society, to prepare design guidance for the City Centre. This initiative has generated huge community interest and support, with the outputs to set out the local community’s aspirations for new development in the City Centre, particularly for integrating contemporary development within St Albans unique historic context. It is anticipated that this information will provide developers with examples of built form, detailing and materials which exemplify St Albans character.”
Vanessa Gregory Chair of Look! St Albans comments: “The full power of the Look! St Albans workshop report comes from the fact the community initiated the work and endorsed the end product. It is a living document that has been used to inform the award winning MoSTA Design Charrette and will be used again this September”
Further documents that also informed the development brief can be found here http://www.stalbans.gov.uk/planning/Planningpolicy/library/ccos.aspx

St Albans working together! Look! St Albans attracts funding from local businesses to help with our work

1/8/2016

St Albans is working together! Look! St Albans is thrilled to have secured financial support from St Albans Chamber of Commerce and Kingston Smith to help with our work.
At the moment volunteers are preparing to host our largest design charrette to date and this financial support is most welcome and timely.
As a consequence in addition to the letters of invitation to stakeholders neighbours, Look! St Albans supporters, district councillors, local county councillors, residents associations, parish councils and many more we have produced an A5 flyer that will be delivered to in excess of 36,000 homes in the next few weeks before the Design Charrette.
We are also asking local businesses (mainly city centre) to hold a supply of the flyers to ensure we reach as many people as possible with an interest in our city centre to come along and take part in the ‘City Centre Opportunity Site Design Charrette’.
Lisa Bates-Wallis Executive Director of the Chamber said: “The Chamber is very pleased to be offering financial support to this project. It is very important that the business community and the wider community get to have a say in this important city centre development. A great opportunity to consider what St Albans at large really wants on that site”
Silvia Vitiello, partner at Kingston Smith in St Albans, commented: “We are delighted to support this important initiative, which we believe will help maintain and develop the strong, central community in which the people and businesses of St Albans thrive.”
Vanessa Gregory Chairwoman of Look! said: “Look! St Albans Our Community Voice on Design’ is a unique inclusive community group that actively promotes community engagement on significant developments in central St Albans with no membership fee, therefore we are reliant on grants and donations.
This funding sends out a powerful message that the business community and the community at large can come together and work together for the positive good of our great city.  Our generation has a wonderful opportunity to leave a worthy legacy for the future, together we are grasping this with both hands.”
