Vanessa Gregory Chairman of Look! St Albans said “It has been a joy and great fun to work with Raj and the students. Many of the students either live in the district or visit our city centre and have been very enthusiastic, as it is their city centre too! Not only hav e the students designed the website, they have had significant involvement in the contents too.
We are delighted and grateful that Oaklands College is now one of our official supporters. The launch of our website is a major step forward to raise awareness of we are about, how we aim to achieve our purpose and aims and one way to help raise vitally needed funds for our work as we have no membership fee or grants.”
Organiser of the work experience and ICT tutor at Oaklands College; Raj Dhillon said “As a part of work experience week I was trying to arrange work experience for students externally or for students to work towards real life scenarios. As a team, we managed to get into contact with Anthony Oliver who was looking for someone to build him and his group a website.
Two groups were put forward from the level 3 ICT course. We as a team invited Anthony and his Look St Albans team to discuss the website requirements and to get a better idea of what Look St Albans was about.
After the initial meeting students started to work on designs for the website and I kept in regular contact with the Look St Albans team to get resources from them such as images etc. After four weeks I invited the Look St Albans team back so that they could review the websites the students had produced and give developmental feedback.
After the student presentations the Look! St Albans group was really impressed with what the students produced, each group had produced a website and the Look St Albans team seemed very positive about both. They were very thankful to our students and gave some excellent feedback. As a consequence they decided no further development was needed as the websites were of excellent quality.
This has been a tremendous event for the students to partake in and receive the level of praise and compliments about the professional quality of their work from high profile members of the community. The event towards the end of June could well lead to job opportunities for students with local businesses and will certainly serve them very well moving forward as something to put on their CVs and enhance their job prospects or UCAS applications. Many thanks to Colin Wright and Mark Davinson from ICT who supported and drove the project through.”
The website is due to be handed over to Look! St Albans on Monday 30th June, but now the students are so much a part of Look! St Albans it is anticipated that the students and the college will remain involved.
The websites were created under the tutoring of Raj Dhillon Co-ordinator Business and ICT Oaklands College, Welwyn Garden City Campus.
